I posted a while back that I had broken a rocker stud on my L-98 113 heads. Well I broke another one about 500 miles later. Found out that you have to use extra long studs when installing roller rockers, or you can have breakage. My machinist said that he installed extra long ones, but I found out he didn't. So I have some ARPs know and hopefully that problem is gone.
It burns me up everytime I read something like what you said...so and so said they did the work/job and really did not do it.Ive been a victim too many times which is why I learned to fix cars myself.
Anyways, with all valve train changes, you gotta check everything, and when you PAY someone to do it,you take their word for it and it suxs to find out later what the real case is.At least you found this out now and bought better studs.Better for you to measure and check everything than rely on someone else words anymore.
Im not a valve train guru but hope to learn alot more.Upgrading, like what 65 said has been suggested in everything Ive read about installing RR's.ARP's seems to be the best out there. As long as theres no binding or interference,it should be a permanent fix.
:)
I called Lingenfelter and they told me if I didn't have them it could cause breakage. Look in their cat. or on their web site and they show 3/8" extra long studs and say that on L-98 and LT1 heads that if you install roller rockers you could have breakage without the longer studs. The ones I had on were Comp Cams studs, but still broke.
