At what temp. should the radiator fan kick in on an 84 L83. Mine for some reason turns on at about 230F. Is this normal. I changed the temp. sensor but this is the result. :steering:
Don't know on an '84, but most turn on a heck of a lot higher than you would think. On a stock PROM '90 I think one of mine turned on at a slightly lower temp, and both ran as soon as the A/C was turned on, or it hit some ridiculously higher temp. Sorry I can't give you a difinitive number.
I DO have an '84, and that is about right. What temp sensor did you change? What did you change it for? Where was it located? At what temp did the fan come on, before the change? Do you have a fan in front of the radiator, too? Or only the one to the rear?
230 is correct for an '84, but check this out--my car used to continually run up to 230 and back down to about 220, I figured it was normal. Then my half bolted on/half zip-tied on air dam came off. The piece was a mutt--'89 dam bolted to the '84 bracket. Anyhoos, car hasn't been over 205 since the thing came off. I'll be making sure the new air dam is a correct '84 piece, but the change without any air dam was certainly dramatic.
