Default Intake leaks???

88 L98 C4. Has anyone heard of any common cracking or leaking intake manafolds internally, causing oil consumption. Mine is using oil and I just bored and installed new pistons and thats why I went there in the first place. I looked the intake over twice, nothing evident. Got to be the intake... Thanks in advance... :banghead:

Did you replace your valve guides and seals?

Yes all new, 2nd time I have been there looking for this problem...We did not replace the guides but did the seals. It was using about 1 quart per 300 miles. I just put 100 miles on this motor and it would still smoke when you throttle it up a little. Unless it is still burning oil out of the exhaust system that was there already. I doubt it...

Do a leak down test. Pain to do, but it will tell the truth. :chevy

The only GM manifolds I've heard about with cracking problems are on the 3.8 6 and I believe only the plastic ones. Did you lay a straight edge across it to make sure it isn't warped? Anything shaved off the deck for the rebuild? If so, may need a few thousands off the manifold for proper alignment. Is the splash shield attached? You might try a little RTV on the gaskets, though if its aligned and straight and the water passages don't show any signs of corrosion, that shouldn't be necessary.
