Just put new Zo6 wheels on 17/8.5 front 17/9.5 back. Front tires are like new 255/45r17 need to replace back tires. The back tires are 285/40r17. I like the width of the tires on the back but want a little taller tire for the back. I think it would look better. What size tire do you suggest that have about the same width but a inch or so taller for the back wheels. Thanks for the input.
I run 285/45/17s in the rear with 245/45s up front (soon to be replaced with 255/45s. Check the pic in my sig, or the other pics on my webpage for other pics. The difference between 285/40 and 45 is really not that much, though - 5% of the width of the tire...
Use caution as a taller tire will effectively change your gear ratio;(hurting your acceleration a little), and throw your speedometer off. Our stock tires are approx. 26" tall. Tire width has no effect on these.
You can't go to a taller tire without going to a narrower tire. To gain an inch in diameter (from 26" to 27") you would need to go to a 255/50WR17. Then you start having other problems. A tire that narrow should not be installed on a wheel that is wider than 9" max.
The exception might be that you could find some speciality tires (drag tires) that would come in the size you are looking for.
Are you just trying to fill the wheel gaps? Lower the rear, its cheaper and easier. Even if you got a 1" taller tire it is only effectively going to fill the gap 1/2" at best.
