Are chambered exhaust kits any good compared to other cat back systems? Do they provide gains over stock systems? I have been looking at the system offered by Ecklers. Thanks for any helpful feedback.
I've got the aluminum one on my 93. I've had it for around 3 years now.
Improvements: Louder exhaust sound (sounds like a mid 60's big block when at WOT, at idle, it is a little louder than stock), free flowing (helps increase performance, also helps a little with mpg), looks factory minus those ugly oil can mufflers.
Negatives: For someone who doesn't want louder exhaust, they won't like it.
You can spend twice as much on name-brand cat-back setups, but I prefer this setup. A couple people who have heard mine have really liked it and are looking at getting this set-up instead of Corsa and Borla exhaust systems. (I know I will get flamed for that statement.) A lot is personal preference. For me it was $550 instead of $900+. My pocket liked the chambered system a lot better!

Here's something you could try. Exhaust shops sell "chambered mufflers", which basically look like long tubes; these contain the same "chambers" you'll find in those chambered exhaust systems. I had two put on where my stock resonator was. Fit like a glove. I put them on to help quiet down the resonance of the Flowmasters. They added a really cool sound to the exhaust note, though. Sounds real raspy and poppy, kinda like a mix between a Harley and a mid-year vette with sidepipes. I'm even considering just cutting off the flowmasters and running the chambered muffs only.
You could just replace your resonator with the chambered mufflers, then replace your stock mufflers with straight pipe (use your stock tips). To install two chambered mufflers the exhaust shop charged me $80. So it's a cheap experiment.
