I am almost ready to pull out my engine, the question is: do I also have to drop the transmission? The shop manual seems to indicate that I do. Can the engine be pulled out with the transmission still in the car? My car is a 89 Coupe with a 6-speed. Thanks,
Jim B.
Re: Pulling engine out of a 89 6-speed:question (vette punk)
No you don't have to remove the tranny.
When I pulled my engine I used some wood blocks unde the tranny to support the front and left it connected to the drivehsaft and beam and the engne came right out. Went back in the same way :D

Thanks for all of the replies. Another forum member e-mailed me with yet another tip. Remove the harmonic balancer before pulling the engine will give you more clearance. Anyone else with some helpful hints? I will chime in later to let you know the results.

Engine is out!!! Only a couple of obstacles were encountered.Had to remove motor mounts from engine block for clearance,6 bolts. Also, the transmission can stay in the car but the clutch and bell housing had to come out with the engine. Now it is time to stroke it!! :D
