Default MAF burn off procedure help needed.

I saw quite some time ago that there is a way to force a MAF burn off. It involved using the ALDL but I don't remember which terminals to jump.

Any one know how to do this?

Thanks, Mike.

I don't think there is any easy way to force the MAF into burn off mode. It can be done by grounding the controlling wire to the relay, I can't remember the exact pin location on the computer but can look it up if you want. I wouldn't recommend it because the burn off mode is controlled for a certain amount of time by the computer, doing this manually may burn up the platinum wire inside the unit. The computer will enter burn off mode every time the car is shut off when in closed loop. You can test if the car is in closed loop by grounding the test connector under the dash and watching the check engine light, if it is blinking fast then it is in open loop, if it is blinking slow it is in closed loop. Turn the car off when in closed loop and if looking down the MAF you should see the element glow.

Why not simply remove the MAF and clean it with CRC electronics parts cleaner. Quick, efficient, and safe for the electronics.

easiest way is to ground term E at the ALDL ......with the ign on, then turn the ignition off and quickly observe the burn off wire it should turn red after a few seconds. You should have the MAS set up or hose off so you can do this quicly or have a helper observe the wire, it will be evident when it turns red.....
