Default new rebuilt alternator problem

I just installed a rebuilt alternator (CS 130 from a 93) in my 86 coupe . Reason for the change was bad bearings in the old one. The new one charges fine at lower RPM but voltage drops below 12 at ~ 3000 RPM. Does anyone know what causes this , Is it a bad voltage regulator? Thanks for your help on this. I'm stumped. :cheers:

Hey folks , this is a rally strange one. I drove the car ~4 hours today and the alt was putting out 14.2 volts as long as I drove normally. Whenever I got on it the Voltmeter dropped to battery volts. Came back to normal when I resumed cruise speed. I just finished a rebuild on my spare alt. just in case, cause I don't trust this one. Should I try to figure this out or just get it replaced under warranty? Need some help!!! :cheers:

You have a defective alternator, take it back. That alternator has out of round slip rings which at high rpm lift the brushes and turn off the field current shutting off the alternator.
