Default Has anyone read the latest Chevy Performance header article?

They took a 383 and dynoed 1-1/2" to 1-7/8" headers. It seemed that the 1-1/2" Shortie headers really surprised them. The 1-5/8" Longtubes weren't even even close to the 1-1/2" for a street car. What's your guys take??

I read the article too, it seemed they were inconclusive as to why the results were the way they were. A different engine than what they had would probably have different results.

Can you scan and post the article?

It was an interesting article. I asked in a post yesterday if anyone had read it also. I didn't get any responses --------- maybe the April issue hasn't been out long enough. I also read a good article on another web site about "header flange restricter plates" that improve performance in lower rpm street engines.

Yep! I read it. It almost could have been written without the headers, engine, or dyno. It was pretty predictable. It would have been even more telling, if they had got a hold of a set of 1 1/2" long tubes.

Long story short. An engine should end up with parts coordinated for a specific purpose. Just like heads, cam, intake manifold, etc, the biggest headers aren't necessarily the best choice. Bigger ian't always better.

From what I got out of the article, it was the combination of the smaller 1-1/2" tubes w/ shorty design that made the headers perform so much better. The numbers would make alot more sense if this was a 350, but this was a 440hp 383ci. As the article stated, "The results had them scurrying to find out the answers"
