i am thinking of ordering these for my LT4. anyone have any better suggestions? where the best place to get these? best price? im not in any rush to recieve them so any website is fine.
Do not order these. You are just wasting your money, like I did on 2 sets of them.
On a normally functioning car, they are fine. However, if your car's O2 sensor quits or something goes haywire and you run rich. These plugs will quickly foul, leavving you with a no-start condition like they did on mine. In my case a bad O2 sensor caused the car to run rich.
Why do they have more tendency to foul? I dont know for sure, but I heard something once about smaller electrode area.
Just save your money and get the normal NGK TR55's and you will be fine.
I personally like having the piece-of-mind that if I am on a trip somewhere away from home, and cant change whatever broke (bad O2 sensor) whatever, that my car will still start, run and limp home.
Some people will chime in and say they are great, mine were when it worked. I did notice 'something', less hesitation while driving, faster throttle response, etc.
However, I am not the only forum member who has had them foul.
I installed them in my 92 LT1 after reading a lot of positive comments about them here. Did plugs and MSD wires just before my 6000+ mile trip on the 50th Anniversayr Caravan. Didn't have any problems at all on the entire trip. Lots of freeway driving including some 3-digit speeds and 5 days of in-town driving in Bowling Green and Nashville and no indication of plug problems.
The NGK's are pricey and there are probably some plugs that will work for less, but I am quite happy with them. I was suprised to see a lot of people say that Bosch plugs were not good performers in the LT1/LT4 motors.
The original AC Delco platinum-tipped plugs that I took out had lost all of the little platinum pucks so I decided that I was not going to replace them with another set.
I had problems with spark arcing on a new set between the boot to the distributor (wire from coil) and water pump housing.
I suggest you run your car in a dark garage and manually operate the TB throttle lever, watch for sparks on all wires. The cure for mine was to wrap the boot/wire junction with a whole bunch of electrical tape.
Hope I was just the only person with a bad set of MSD plug wires, but I read of anotehr forum member having problems with them too. Interestingly, the problems with MSD wires/products seems to be isolated to just the LT-1 cars for some reason. (Dont even get me going on MSD's Digital 6 plus, i had 2 units die on me leaving me stranded in bad places until I bypassed the unit).
