FIRST, THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE TRIED TO HELP.
LAST CALL.. :mad
STILL STALLS, TO DATE HAVE REPLACED MAF, BOTH MAF RELAYS, O2 SENSOR, TPS, FUEL FILTER. I AM GETTING CODES 14 AND 23 AT THIS POINT. HAVE CLEARED CODES, SET TPS TO CORRECT VOLTAGE, DIES WHILE DRIVING AND AT IDLE. BACKFIRES ON DE-CELLERATION. ALSO SEEMS TO BE RUNNING RICH. ALL OUT OF IDEAS, HATE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, DON'T TRUST THEM. SO AGAIN, THANKS IN ADVANCE. :flag
sounds electrical to me look at the connecotr wires going into the case of the dist.Is it heat triggered.Look for a lelted wire at engine the sensor for code 13 it under intake i think.Sounds like a electrical issue see if someone gas a ecm you could swap localy and see if it is in thier. Also what about the IAC valve.
Code 14, coolant temp sensor low voltage, can be checked with a DMM by measuring the resistance of the sensor and testing it's signal line for a short to ground.
Code 23, MAT air temp too low voltage, can be tested in the same way.
I suspect that with these two sensors out of range the ECM is running in Limmp Home mode resulting in a rich condition.
A scan tool would be a great aid here, in fact the purchase of even an AutoXray would likely pay back on just this problem if a trip to the Chevy dealer can be avoided. There are other scanner packages to run on a lap top which would be even more cost effective.
First try checking out those two sensors and their wiring to see if either is defective.
Hang in there man...just a few words of encouragement....went thru the same senerio on a lean condition with a code 64 ...o2 sensor ...spent over $600 dollars chasing down the problem! My advice to you is step back from this issue and rethink all of the things you have done...the answer is just the next thing you try or the next....but believe me you will find it!....the best thing that came out of my adventure was I found a true corvette man in my city......try looking for a true vette mechanic...they are out there...Now for
what I think is wrong with your car ..probably the same thing that was wrong with mine......electrial wire ... a short...defective wire..some one told me that this was my problem early on ...I dance around that answer fearing major cost to find electrial problems..in the end that was the cheaps cost than any of the things I tried before........that's my .02
THANKS, NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT THE AVG/INST. MPG FUNCTION HAS BEEN ACTING UP FOR A LONG TIME BUT NEVER INTERFERED WITH PERFORMANCE. WHAT WOULD BE YA'LLS CHOICE FOR SERVICE MANUAL. THE HAYNES I HAVE WOULD BE GREAT FOR STARTING THE FIREPLACE WITH, ANY SUGGESTIONS? IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, SEEMS WORSE AFTER GETTING WARM/DISTANCE FROM HOME. ALSO GOOD TEST PROGRAM FOR LAP TOP TESTING? OR ?
AGAIN THANKS TO ALL. KEEP YOU INFORMED.
ALSO MADE A TPS SENSOR TEST LOOM FOR ABOUT $4.00, WORKS GREAT :flag :steering:
Greg, if you have to bring it to a dealer bring it to Fox Chevy in Oak Ridge and ask for me. Or you could just give me a call if you get down this way.
I agree with others, it could indeed be the IAC, as I had a similar problem.
I would recommend removing the throttle body, cleaning it thuroughly (after unpluging and removing the IAC, thenre-install.
ALSO, disconnect the battery while doing this, so the computer will reset. There is a startup procedure that must follow this before ignition. Do a search for the proceedure, if no luck with the search, we'll help further.
THANKS AGAIN ALL. TRY TO LOOK AT ALL THESE SUGGESTIONS THIS WEEKEND. CHECK THE IAC AND IAT. JUST BASICLY NOSE AROUND.
DID FIND A LOOSE WIRE, BUT IT WAS OFF THE BRAKE M/CYL. THOUGHT THAT I HAD FOUND IT, DANG. OH WELL IT NEEDS FIXING TOO...
TALK TO YA'LL LATER. MANY THANKS... :flag
Sure thing greenvette. I can't promise you that I'll be of any help, but you're welcome to use the Autoxray. Shoot me an email when you want to give it a try.
