I just saw a little blurb on CNN that GM either plans to or already has recalled 127,000 Vettes due to steering problems. Has anyone heard of this?
They didn't say which model but I assume it's for the C5.

Quite possilbe...heard that wheel just fell off..something to do with ball joints...
I just went to the C5 forum, I guess there is a problem with steering column lock up while driving. That could be a scary thing  . It effects all models built from 97-04. Scary thing for GM too! I guess it's their 3rd recall with in a month. There goes those qurterly earnings.
It is indeed the column lock issue. its been around since the C5s began
Yup, and they had already changed it back in '02 I think to supposedly "not happen anymore" even though they never acknowledged it happened in the first place. There have been a crapload of cases of people putting their key in to go driving and the steering wheel won't unlock. There has also been at least 1 case of the steering wheel locking WHILE IN MOTION!!!!
Now which would be worse at 100+ mph?
A ball joint popping out and letting the front wheel loose,
or the steering column freezing up and locking the steering?
Either way, I'd say the driver and St. Peter would soon be shaking hands,
or at least the driver would be reciting a few new prayers.
:iagree: No kidding. Guy inspecting my car gave me a hard time with it. He climbed out of my car holding on steering wheel and said wheel is too loose. I said you wanna know why, because people like you pull on steering wheel to get out of car. He let me pass.

Not just with Corvettes either. I build street rods and am always looking through the junk yards for early model tilt columns. Your lucky if you can find 1 out of 10 that hasn't been slopped out.
I believe with Corvettes a lot of people pull down and back on the wheel due to the fact that your arms are more out stretched then with conventional cars.
But your right People really like to use them for exit assist.
It's hard gettin outa them there dadburn contraptions, HUK HUK!
