Anyone ever try to remove the computer harness from a C4? I wanted to switch to a stand alone system but have run into a snag. It appears that the computers harness is tangled with the accesory harness. Why did chevy do this? How much work is involed separating the two?

You should check out one of the harnesses made by Mac McKenzie which will allow you to piggy back the aftermarket ECU with your stock ECU and stock wiring harness. This will allow your stock ECU to run the guages and accessories and the aftermarket ECU to control your fuel/spark etc.. His website is http://www.fasttrackperformance.com
I'm using one of his harnesses on my upcoming FAST installation, and after speaking with him at length on the phone, he really knows his stuff and has created a real quality product.
I've thought about the adapter harnesses, but decided against them because my OEM is a littlt beat up and I don't think they support all the stand alone features (Seq,etc..)
I pulled my 85's harness @ 1 month ago, I un taped the two wads of wires pulled the engine management "wad" thru the firewall with no problems.
I looked into stand alone ECM's and the Haltech appears to "piggy-back" the factory harness but I chickened out and just put mine back in after cleaning it up.
