My car will not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Before I send it to the shop, I wanted to make sure I was adjusting the TV cable properly as this did seem to start shortly after I put in a new TB.
1. I push on the reset tab and push the slider as far as I can back towards the tranny. Then release the reset tab.
2. I open the TB all the way. The mechanism ratchets.
It will still no shift into 3rd. Am I doing this properly?
The only slightly different procedure listed in the TPIS Hints book is to use your foot to depress the accelerator pedal rather than manually open the throttle body with your hand.
I've done it both ways and I really don't think it makes any difference.
There is a step by step procedure listed in the GM Shop Manual for diagnosing transmission shifting problems. Maybe someone knows of a site where it's posted.
OR you can save a bunch of screwing around, and simply stick a fork in that transmission... Because, it's DONE! You can keep fooling with the TV cable (you've done it correctly), check the fluid, change the fluid, change the filter, check pressures, and touble shoot until you're blue in the face. That transmission is toast. Sorry.
You might want to make sure that the shift linkage isnt out of whack either...
If it started after doing some work.....I think it's worth checking out....
I wouldnt give up that easy... even though the outlook is grim...
best of luck.
