I noticed strange thing w/ my left headlight motor the other day. As far as the lights flipping up or down, not a problem. No slips, jerks or diff. in speed from side to side. However, the left motor continues to spin for what seems like quite a few seconds after the light has hit the stops?? (up or down) Right motor stops running as soon as the light hits a position of up or down.
Anyone have a clue? Am I going to have to rebuild that one or both since you never fix one of anything & expect the other to not fail shortly...
I think that's an early sign that your going to have to rebuild the gear boxes. That's the way mine started. Then pretty soon, one of them wouldn't lock into place and would droop after driving. After I put those three little plastic rods in the gear box, fixed everything.
If you go to the tech tip section under headlight bushing repair, it walks you through it. I bought my repair kit from corvette central (I think). It's only a couple of bucks and takes maybe an hour. It is easier to take the whole assembly out and put it on the kitchen table to work on it. I also found a how to in an old corvette fever that had better instructions than the repair kit.
Make sure when you order the repair kit that you buy the bronze kit and not the plastic! The original gears are plastic and that is why they wear out so easy. All the Corvette catalogs sell both sets.
:iagree: Yep I only needed the 3 plastic barrels in mine. Went in pretty fast. Bought them on Ebay for 6.00 came with gasket also. Make sure you get a new gasket the old one will tear up.
