350 TO 383 CONVERSION
5.7" or 6.0" rods
pistons made for the above rods and stroke.
Piston rings
Main bearings
Rod bearings
Cam bearings
Camshaft(at least a LT4 hotcam, maybe a CompCams 306)
Timing set(not different but a new one would be good)
Rear main seal
Complete gasket and seal set.
You'll need some head work for the 383 to be usefull.
Freeze plug set(Get from GM, the ones from Autozone, etc. do not come with the small ones with the pin holes in them)
All necessary fuel mods(A chip to start)
Machine work(minimum)
Bored and honed cylinders
Clearancing on rods and block for cam/rod interferance(This can be prevented by getting a small base circle cam)
Balancing of the rotating assembly.
Block cleaned
New cam bearings installed.
Align honing, decking, milling as needed.
I'd recommend getting ARP main studs which will need an align hone for the block/mains.
DID I MISS ANYTHING GUYS
1.) Stroker crank.
2.) Stroker pistons.
3.) Unbalanced damper. For a 400 cid sbc.
4.) Unbalanced flywheel (manual trans) or flexplate (auto trans). For a 400 cid sbc.
If you select a crankshaft that has extra weight installed for an "internal balance" you can omit items 3 and 4. Those are the only parts NEEDED for the 350 to 383 conversion. Good luck, and...
RACE ON!!!
