I have just started installing new foam and seat covers (standard seats) on my 1984 Corvette. I have taken the passenger seat out and removed the top and bottom. I have also removed the bottom leather from the old foam so I can see what I am dealing with. I think I know what I am doing (famous last words), but figured I'd check in here one last time before I take the plunge. So, does anyone have any bits of advice, things I should watch out for, or things to definitely do or not do? Thanks, and I'll give an update when I'm done.
check the tech tips and use a hair dryer when installing the new leather covers..
Keeps them warm and soft for an easier and better fit..
You will need "hog rings and pliers" if you are making them fit as the originals.
Don't do what I did and get the cheapest hog ring plyers. Get ones with a cushioned grip. Even after one pair of seats, my palms and fingers had huge painful blisters.
Also, if you take out the other seat cushions, you can use them as a guide to do the other seat and to see how it all goes back together.
Good luck and don't worry, once you get going and start getting a feel for it, it goes quick. The first seat too me about 2 or 3 hours to recover taking my time and the second took less than half that.
