84 Accelleration Lag
First off, I have off-the-line problems. When I go to punch it off the line, it just stays in 1st gear and red lines for about 5-6 seconds before shooting through the other gears. Also, the passing gears don't always seem to engage when I mash the accellerator down. Could this be a timeing/tranny problem??
Finally, is there anything I can do performance wise to make my 84 a more solid runner? I mean, I'm loseing races against Le Barons for crying out loud! And if there is that lag, V-tec civics walk all over me :mad Help anyone?? Thanks a mil, -Ben

That bad thing is no one normally replaces the bushing surface on the tranny when they get rebuilt (you have to drill the case to fit a bushing in.)
Just live with it or get the trans shift kit...or get a newer year model trans (87 or newer will be fine) because the 84 had the weakest 700R4 trans ever made.

1. Stop trying to race the car until it's running correctly, or you will get repeatedly embarrassed.
2. Fix the problem(s). The lack of ability to shift is one reason you are getting stomped by ricers. The poorly performing engine is another. A stock 84 Vette will waste a stock 2004 Civic or stock turbo LeBaron if it's running correctly. Yours obviously isn't.
3. Give us a little more info. Do you have any fail codes? What fuel pressure do you have, and have you replaced the fuel filter recently? What is your timing set at? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Has the car been tuned recently? How many miles are on the engine? Do both injectors spray a nice misty cone shaped pattern? Have you checked for a clogged catalytic converter?
4. AS for the tranny.....Have you adjusted the TV cable for the transmission? Has the fluid and filter been changed on the tranny?
Let's start there and see what we uncover. Before long those riceboys will only see your 4 taillights.
RACE ON!!!
