I am in the middle of the install and remember somone saying you have to grind off s part of the valve covers. Why do you have to do this and what do you have to do.
Re: Grinding valve covers for superram? (vetteguy216)
I don't have time right now, but I'll find the thread a little later and post it. I just did this recently. What RR's and valve covers are you using? and what year?
When installing a superram you have to take a few thousandths off the upper edge (the part the valve cover gasket goes under)of the valve covers or they'll hit the runners when you install them. This is a completely seperate issue to the normal valve cover & roller rocker issue.
I just ran mine over the bend grinder once quick and that was enough.
Sorry the pics aren't better. Look toward the left side of the lips on the covers.
I did the grinding with a Dremmel. Four grooves on each cover. I just placed the cover as close to where I could guess that it belonged and marked a line in the center where the cover needed to slip past the runner and ground there the deepest and less to each side, pretty much guessing. It was trial and error all the way.

Rich, I don't know what it is. I bought this SuperRam runers/plenum-Edlebrock base from "Mitch" here on the forum. He never had to grind his valve covers on his L98 heads, however I did.
