Installed a new Serpentine belt today and upon firing the engine up I see some smoke coming out of the engine compartment (not a lot, but enough to force me to open the hood to see WTF is going on). After opening the hood, the remnants of the smoke pretty much disappears and no new smoke can be seen. look at the belt and everything seems perfectly aligned and running smoothly and quietly. Took it out for a ride, no problems. Therein lies the heart of the question: Is it common to have a little smoke from a newly installed belt? I had pretty much checked for proper alignment and all seemed fine on all the pulleys before the startup.
Was the smoke comming from the front of the engine or elsewhere and did it smell like rubber or oil?
:yesnod: Yes, from the front of the engine, smell was not overpowering (like smoking up the tires smell) or real strong, but if I had to compare it to any smell, my guess would be rubber...
