The drivers side seat belt (lower half) has all of the sudden locked up, as if the cinch button is being pressed although I have checked and the cinch button is up. Is there a way to repair these seat belt systems (ie. if I find a broken something in the retraction unit is there a place to buy parts?) orelse, where can I get a new or used unit? Thanx.
On my 85 it did the samething. GM put a recall on my seatbelts and a few other year vetts. All you have to do is go to the dealer and they will run your VN# to see if its under the recall and if so, BAM you gots some new belts!

Re: Seat Belt locked (C490Vette)
 Mine "locks up" also...as in when you try to pull it over to fasten it, it won't move.
Problem I found is that the sewn edge on the belt doesn't retract all the way into the bottom holder/fitting! I have to frorce it down into the housing and then it works fine.
Now, when I release the belt, I keep my fingers down by the housing and guide the belt into it
Not sure if this is similar to your problem or not
Call GM, there was a MAJOR RECALL ON THESE BELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The MAJOR problem is if you get in a wreck you may not be able to release your belt. :cry Plus you get a pair of new belts in my choices of colors. Dont even bother trying to fix them until you see if it falls under the recall. :nono: Its your call. :seeya
Looks like there might just be a recall on the seat belts after all for the 1990. The recall describes the exact problem I am having. Gonna call Chevy tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanx everyone!
I'm exhibiting problems with the passenger side seatbelt. I'm aware of the recall but didn't think I'd still be eligible..
I just gave the local Chevy place a call and they said there are three open recalls according to my VIN - Two seatbelts and a hose under the hood that I'm not going to let them touch.
All I have to do is take the car in and they'll fix it.. I never would have thought to check if it wasn't for this thread.
I had that same problem on my '95. I unscrewed 3 screws on the driver's side rocker panel, then unscrewed the plastic seat belt cover in the floor...and I found a penny jammed into the mechanism. Removed the penny and then my seat belt started working again.
