Tranny Autopsy
Folks,
Well I had Mike Norris from Norris Motorsports do the R&R on my tranny. He put in the Mad Dog tranny. Crisp shifts I must say compared to the stocker. Hope it holds up. It seems to chirp the tires going from 1st to 2nd. Mad Dog said it would do that. Hope I get used to it.
Anyway, contrary to my babying the tranny with fresh flushes of Mobil-1 tranny fluid and extra HD tranny cooler, the thing went. Both Mad Dog and Mike said not to use Mobil-1 tranny fluid. Too slippery for race applications. They said to stick with the regular fluid and do a fluid replacement once a year.
The Mobil-1 stuff was really cropola looking in the old tranny, I assume because the clutch material dissolved in it or it was just burned up.
Anyway, went all over the place looking for Dextron-2. Not made anymore. Everyone sold only Dextron-3. (Mobil-1 is Dextron-3). Hope Dextron-3 will not tear up a 700R4. Just went with Pennsoil.
