seat belt locking question
I just installed new seat belt assys on my 96. The old belts would 'lock when I grabbed and pulled them hard. The new ones don't!
What causes the belts to lock? What could be the prob other than both belts being defective?
I didn't replace the part that the buckle snaps into, just the seat belt assy itself.

Dont know if it pertained to your year, but on my 85 there was a recall notice on the seat belt assy.'s. Last year I took a copy of the recall that someone submitted here on vette forum to my dealer and they replaced both my belts complete...No Charge. Maybe yours will be included. Check with your dealer.

Unfortunately the orig belts worked fine. It is the replacements that are suspect. I wondered if all belts will grab just by pulling sharply or if it takes something drastic like an accident. Dont want to test it that way, tho!

Not near an expert here but I do not think they will necessarily lock by pulling hard and fast on them, takes more of a shock. The belts in my old 4X4 would not lock by this method but would lock when hitting bumps off road.
