ok heres my dilemma. i purchased a 93' 6speed LT1 Vette about 6 months ago. its a really nice car and quite a step up from my auto 89' Vette i owned previously. however, i have recently set a goal for my car... i want to trap 120mph in the quarter. i loved drag racing my old 89' but i knew it would require extensive work to hit these kinds of speeds. i got a good deal on the 93' so i bought it, but am now thinking i may trade it in on a 99' hardtop with a LS1. ive heard alot about how easy it is to hit those kinds of trap speeds with this motor. people say it may only take boltons, heads and cam and 120mph should be attainable.
so heres my question... is it possible to get 120mph traps out of a stock displacement N/A LT1? or is it going to be more trouble than its worth and be much easier to try this with a LS1 Vette? the one thing thats keeping me from trading in right now is that a C5 will be TWICE what i paid for the 93'. but if thats the only way i can reach my goal, than i guess ill have to start looking at dealerships. thanks in advance
Re: 120mph trap speed possible from LT1? (tpivette)
I think it's doable! Either way you're talking heads & cam, programming basic fuel and air intake mods and exhaust. I'm not certain but I thnk the C4 will be way cheaper to get 120mph traps as well.
Re: 120mph trap speed possible from LT1? (tpivette)
120 MPH in a 350 NA LT1 is a stretch. Did get 119.5 MPH with my six speed 350 on a real cold day, good DA, and fast track. If you throw out the highest and lowest MPH, your looking at 115-117MPH most of the time with a fully modded LT1-- 360-375RWHP
Re: 120mph trap speed possible from LT1? (tpivette)
It can be done but it is going to require a good set of prted heads and a nice cam. Nathan Plemons was puting down 379 RWHP with a Hot Cam and that is a fairley mild cam (he may have had 1.7s though) so if you go with a more agresive cam and plan your build right you will be close.
In my 93 vert, my best NA trap is 112. I have 345 rwhp (ported/gasket matched heads, hotcam kit, Ed Wright chip, Long tube headers, no cats (yet otherwise stock LT1 catback exhaust), lightweight aluminum flywheel
When I add 100 shot of nitrous. It jumps to 121. That was a weird experience too, because since I had just ran NA the run before, I was now traveling faster at certain parts of the track, than I as used to.
