This is the 2nd post, cant find my original..Anyone know of a good article on replacing all the weatherstrip and retainers on an 88 coupe????
Thanks!!!
I don't know of any good literature on it but don't worry. none of it is real difficult onlt time consuming. I am sure you will get plenty of great advise from myself and hundreds of others.
Weatherstripping can be a pita The old stuff is usually snotted on there and dryrotted so it doesnt want to come off real easy. But it will The best advice I can give you is buy the good stuff. I replaced all my weatherstrips last summer and bought a 500 dollar kit(cheap) I really wish I just would have spent the money(closer to a 1000$) Because the factory WS has wires and plastic parts inside the WS to help it hold form and for the retaining screws to hold it on the car. My cheap WS kit did not and I do not think it will last like the factory WS did. If you plan on keeping the car spend the cash on the good stuff. I was disapointed and will be mad when I have to do it again :cry :reddevil
I did my whole car in gm weatherstripping. Everything fit and looked perfect. 1 year (2k) later it started to crack and fall apart I had to again replace back window and door weatherstrips. I wont buy gm again it wont hold up. The company I chose next was Metro. These have a 20 year warrantee and fit and sealed well. I hope there other seals fit as good. 2 years later the metro still looks new. I hope others will chime in with suggestions!
Thats exactly what i bought..Im sorry, but im not a GM parts person, and the fact that metro gives the warranty they do-im sold.I have all the parts here, and they all look, feel, and fit great (as far as measuring them up and stuff-not installed yet obviously!)
Im sure im gonna get bashed by die hard GM people, but $200 for a piece of rubber is crazy- metal in it or not..
Ever notice that the parts that are bad on ALL CORVETTES are the ones that cost alot of $$$ ??? And the ones you DONT need are cheap???? HMMM, sounds like GM knows there @200 piece of rubber is a piece of s#$t ...
Invent a weatherstrip that fits like gm and holds up like ford( no bashing please, not a ford fan but the ford weatherstrip holds up) and sell it for half of gm and people will line up 10 deep to buy. I have heard good and bad about all brands. Thats why I hope others chime in. Not sold on Metro yet but so far so good. :auto:
