i was earching around ebay last night and came upon a set of new, uncoated headers for L98 C4s. ive seen this guy list these before, and was wondering if anyone on here has either bought these headers, or even know what brand they are. i emailed the seller asking him who made the LTs, but he never responded. think this is a good deal, or should i pass? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWA%3AIT
They look pretty good. I would STRONGLY consider having them coated, inside and out. They will still be less expensive than most. The 1 5/8ths inch primary tube size is MUCH better suited for your application, that the over used, 1 3/4's. Good luck, and...
I wouldn't worry too much about the brand. You might see if you can return them if they look really cheezy. You might consider two sets, I see your LT1 isn't any quicker than my stock Crossfire.
ouch! that was below the belt! :D yeah, my LT1 only ran a 13.8, but that was right after i bought it (not even an oil change) and i had NEVER launched a manual trans car before. since then ive serviced it (all fluids changed and tune up performed) and ive gotten a bit more practice behind the wheel. ill be running it again (still 100% factory stock) this Fri when the tracks reopen.
BTW- "stock" crossfire running high 13s? nah. stock motor maybe, but not 100% stock
ok... i went to Hedman's website. the part # for 87 - 91 headers is 68447 (66447 for coated headers). 68440 is for 84 - 91 headers, but i think it would be better to get the ones made for the aluminum heads (at least in my application). ill have to plug in those part #s into summit and jegs to see what they come up with
ok, i found pricing at summit (jegs didnt list the part #s):
- 68440 (84 - 91 non emmisions headers) 119.98
- 68447 (87 - 91 emmisions legal headers) 270.69
- 66447 (coated version of 68447) 460.99
wow! do they really charge $150 just for emissions hookups? thats quite a price to pay just to be smog legal. you would think it would be the other way around... cheaper so we stay legal. its like theyre begging us to break the law
one more question... do you think there would be a diffference between universal 84-91 headers and specific 87-91 headers as far as matching the exhaust port to the heaader primary tube (like the D port design)?
BTW- "stock" crossfire running high 13s? nah. stock motor maybe, but not 100% stock
You caught me! The car has 160,000 miles on it and the long block has never been touched. I HAVE ported my stock manifold and tweeked a few things, here and there. I have less than $1000.00 invested in modifications, and most of that is in the torque converter. But that poor ole worn out car keeps going faster. Your's will go much faster after you get some practice with that manual trans.

I wouldn't be calling it a stock crossfire then. It'll get the hopes of those who own them up only to have them come down at the track.
I've herd the headmans are junk. The hookers are muck beter.
I beg to differ. I've been running Hedman's for 1 year, and know of at least 6 or 7 people in the Club that have been running Hedmans for years with no problems. I would agree the Hookers like nicer and maybe a few hp more, but for the money, I choose Hedman.

Also, Hooker doesn't make the 1 5/8ths inch primaries, that his application screams for.

Scorp,
The heads have never been off. The cam and timing set are the ones installed at the factory. Although everything in between has been changed, the stock exhaust manifolds have never been unbolted from the heads and I still have stock mufflers. It even has the factory installed rear end grease. What do YOU call it, if not stock? Also, I make no secret of my tweeks.
