Hi Everyone,
I hope you'all can shed some light on a problem I've been expereincing. I have a 1996 CE LT4 and I stored it for the winter. I drove it on new years eve and it was running perfect. The weather up to that point had been unseasaonbly warm for New England. Since then it was very very cold. I tookt he car out a couple of weeks ago to get some work done before I really put it back on the road full time, and it ran poorly.
It's a standard and it was shifting very heavy. Since then I noticed that the shifting has been a bit easier, but, and here's the problem, the power is just not getting to the rear wheels. It runs and I can get it up to speed, no prblem, but it doesn't have the jump is had last year. In fact I can see the tac jump and the engine sounds fine, but I don't get corresponding power. In fact the tac jumps freely, as if the transmission isn't resisting at all.
My first thought was that I need to get the tranny fluid topped off or flushed completely, which may still be the case. But, the other thing I noticed was that the engine doesn't get hot, only like 190 degrees, I'm used to seeing it at 230-240, and the transmission is noticably cold. Usually you feel the heat soming off it.
Anyway, has anyone expereinced these symptoms? If so what do you recommend? ANy help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeremy

Update:
Ok, guys thanks for the input. I think we're on the right track. One thing that did come to mind that I didn't link up before, is that the car has a history of bogging down in 1st gear, especially when you really give a good amount of gas. Like, it didn't really want to leap off the line like it should. Let me know if this helps confirm the broken clutch diagnosis. Also, since I'm an idiot can some one, if they have a few minutes, explain in layman's terms how the clutch plate works and what it does for the transmission. Thanks everyone.

Re: Acceleration Issue: Cold Car (VictorRussell'92)
The car has K & N air filters nad after market mufflers, I don't know who makes them. These were there before the problem started. But, after I used the car last I did replace the battery with a Optima Red Top and the car did sit sometime with no battery. Otehr than that the car is stock.

Re: Acceleration Issue: Cold Car (jtheerman)
Its shifting heavy because the transmission oil is still cold. This is normal and happens on lost of manual cars. Are you allowing plenty of time for the car to warm up? How cold are we talking about?
Do this test. In an open parking lot, place the car in 3rd gear. do a heel and toe trick here, but hold the brake whilst holding the throttle at about 2500 rpm. slowly release the clutch. If the engine bogs, all is well, but I am thinking the clutch has a problem.
when the air is cold, the engine should be at its strongest The air is more dense.

Sounds like you need a clutch. Usually if you see the tach rise, but get no acceleration, it's the clutch. Hopefully someone else will come along and either agree with that, or offer some other things to look at.
