Default Oil Question

I have an '86 that just turned 90,000 miles. My oil pressure is okay. It runs 58-61 on the highway, but after it gets warm at idle the pressure drops to around 25, which is probably okay. I just bought the car in October and the owner said he always used 5w-30 oil. I live in Tulsa where the temps go over 100 in the summer pretty regularly. Do you think I would be better off using a 10w-30 oil? Or do you think it matters?

hm. That's a good question.

I would use 5-30, but switch to Mobil 1. It will handle the heat better than any dino oil.

After reading all the posts about synthetic oil causing leaks I am afraid of going that route. I am considering a blend though.

i would stick to factory fill 5w30 mobile 1 but the manual say 10w30 for certain temps..as for oil pressure when mine starts up ofcourse it's high 60+ some but after i do some crusin when i'm at the light with it in drive i get aroudn 35...so i think 25 sounds within range

Synthetic does not cause leaks... it simply finds the leaks that are there.

Believe me, you have a SBC and it WILL leak. Just get used to that idea...

Just an FYI.
I have a '84 with 88k on it now. I use Valvoline Max Life Oil. Even cured my small oil leaks. Until you rebuild the motor stick with the same. I know what everyone else says. But believe me, and save yourself problems.
Been running on regular motor oil. Then stick with it.
