Default 91 Twin Turbo

I bought a very nice 91 about a month ago, and after fixing all of the little C4 problems, I'm now ready to start on the twin turbo project I originally bought the car for. I want to do a twin turbo system along the lines of Lingenfelter or Callaway. Basically, a 500hp daily driver. It will not be a drag car. That's not to say that it will not be drag raced, though!! :steering:

What I'm looking for are detailed (or not) pictures of twin installations for Ideas on where to run the piping, set the turbo's, move accsessories, etc. I'll be using Garrett T28's with 62 trim compressors for the LeMans Skyline GT-R race car. They're not too big, and will fit beside the motor, but will still produce 340hp each. I would prefer the turbos to sit down, beside the engine as it makes the manifolds and down pipes infinitely easier to fab.

Any pictures or ideas can be sent to me directly at matt@motorworx.com. As anyone who has ever built a turbo system can testify to, half the time is involved in the "where's it going to go" thought process. I'd especially like pics of the Callaway and Lingenfelter cars.

A little about myself, as I'm new to this forum and this is my first personal C4: My name is Matt Hutchens. I own Motorworx Race Systems in Japan. I've been building race engines, turbo systems, etc. for rice and American muscle for more than 15 years. Here in my prefecture, I'm known as the guy to go to for American cars. Scarry....... I also own (Shop Car) a back halfed (Strange 9 inch) 82 C3, with an NA all motor 600+hp 383, backed up with a G-Force G-101 4 speed. My partner and I drive it on the street, even though it's holy-good-god-loud. It's put a few supposed 1000hp, $100,000 Nissan Skyline GT-R's in their place. I'm not a frequenter of forums, but this forum kicks butt. There are so many knowledgeable people here, it's incredible.

Thanks for any input!!

Welcome to the Forum MATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw some pretty good pictures I believe in the past few issues of Hot Rod where they were doing a "hot to" on Turbos. They actually had a picture from underneath the car of a single turbo.... It uses a scavenger pump to clear the turbos of oil. It looks like it's mounted pretty much where the cat on the passenger side would go... There are others on this forum like BaldTurboFreak who are much more knowleagable about this topic than me....

Take care,

Tony

Welcome and good luck. Aren't too many people with real world examples of home made turbo kits, but two people are working on them right now. Baldturbofreak and MN_Vette.

Personally, I think turbo's are best for High HP applications, ~800+ HP (even though they make better low end torque than blowers :leaving: )

But if all you're looking for is a 500HP daily driver, it can be done much cheaper other ways. But I know that won't change your mind anyway :bb

Welcome!

One point of advice I would give is that for low mounted turbos on the callaway L98's the passanger area had to be extensivly reworked to get it to fit. Just a word of warning. Sounds like a fun project. I hope we can help. Be sure to send pics. You may want to do a search on turbo in this section to see what other people have tried. Good luck, keep us posted.

I'm REALLY glad to hear that we are being represented over seas
