Alrighty. 84 crossfire, GM 255HP crate topped with original crossfire injection. 700R4 and Dana 36 rear with *i think* 3.08's...
Looking to finally do a few small mods to her since i won't be able to finance the big block project till i'm on more solid financial footing. I was thinking of starting out with the X-Ram intake and going with a small (75-100hp) plate nitrous setup. Possibly doing a cam or 1.6RR but i don't wanna do anything that would require computer mods. Right now the exhaust is stock with no cat or mufflers.
what is your opinion of the X-Ram, and how much did you gain from it? i read over on crossfire injection forum that 25hp isn't unrealistic at all. and if you're running a plate kit, which one to clear the hood? i'm just not sure how much leeway there is under there...Also, how big of a cam could i get without really having to do computer work? the X-Ram is supposed to allow it to breath well up to as far as i'd like to spin it (proly 6k...don't wanna push it) so it should make all it's power below that...or would simply going to 1.6RR be enough? that swap wouldn't be too difficult and wouldn't involve me tearing the front part of the engine down...
I'd prolly go in this order: X-Ram, NOS, Cam or 1.6RR...
i'd just like to hear from some people that have tried some different things and what you got out of it...i know first thing's first...gotta ditch the stock intake...
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (Omega1)
Omega1,
I think you can get the +25hp from the Xfire manifold. That's also been demonstrated on the Crossfire Vault. Right now, my manifold is supporting about 340hp. That's not saying the Xfire manifold is the greatest manifold ever. Its just not the abomination some people make it out to be. Some people on this forum and on the Xfire forum are running 13's with the stock ECM. I'm not a proponent of that but its obviously possible. The stock heads are not optimum. But again, some have run 13's with them.
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (Omega1)
With 160,000 miles on it, I've run a best of 13.86 i the 1/4. The long block is untouched, just as GM put it together 20 years ago. Like Dominic, I am using a ported origional Crossfire manifold. Good luck, and...
Alcee1, does that 2030 compucam work well with the stock ECM? i've heard a few people use it with no tuning and get excellent results...also where did you have the chip done? i see you've done quite alot and according to your sig aren't running a 7747 or PROMinator or other computer mods that i've heard of. Of course i gotta ask, what numbers does she put up? it's a very impressive car!
there is no one else around here that can do that level of port work and i don't trust myself doing it. Even if a shop here agreed to do it, they'd prolly screw it up and then charge me as much as it would cost to just buy the X-Ram in the first place...if there was a reputable shop (or person close to me) that would undertake the project for a decent price, i'd have to at least consider it...
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (Omega1)
Omega1, the 2030 works great with just a custom chip, prolly the stock chip will work also but I wanted mine dialed in just right. I also heard that the 2040, if you want to go more rad will work with the stock ECM also. The chip I had Exotic Muscle burn, they got it right the first time. In case they don't get it right the first time the second burn is free. As far as times are concerned, I won't know that until march when I go to the track, I should be getting my car dyno'd in a couple of weeks then I'll post numbers. Thanks for the compliment, I try and take care of my car the best I can. My advice to you if your not sure about porting you manifold and there is no-one who you trust to do a good job then get the X-Ram (if your money is right) you wont be disapointed. GOOD LUCK...
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (Omega1)
I'm eager to see what it can do...i'm absolutely blown away by the look of it even from that angle. it's basically what i wanted to do to mine except i wanted the sidepipes...thanks and good luck at the dyno/track!
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (Omega1)
me like...
i'll have to toss a pic of mine up when i get home...
it needs interior carpet and seat covers bad, and paint, but otherwise runs and drives fine...
Re: CROSSFIRE OWNERS - Got some questions... (CFI-EFI)
foreground is my 1984 crossfire, and the background is my 1977 L48 4spd...
they need alot of work as i said...77's gettin a 427 as soon as i'm not broke...but it also basically needs a restoration. Functionally it runs and drives alright, it's just not in the condition where i'd show it at all...got the engine but don't have the cash to install it...
the 84 is in better shape, needing only carpet, seat covers, and small miscellaneous parts in addition to the digital dash. i paid 4k for it with 132k on it but 7k on new motor/rebuilt trans/rear end...not bad...someday she'll be getting a full greenwood kit with the sidepipes...i love the looks of the greenwood kits..
