One more time.....
My car has the performance rear-end 3.07's and for reason at highway speeds it cruises at high RPM's.
For example at 80 I am at 3000rpm's,,,,
Can anyone shed light on this for me.....
I know they are 3.07's, because I have jacked the car up and spun the wheels and watched the driveshaft spin 3 1/8 times.....
Any one???????????? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
The tranny is brand new with a new 2600 stall... It has about 2000 miles on it...
It was professionally rebuilt...... Could it be the tach itself, it doesnt jump or anything. It shifts through all the gears perfectly, with no problem at all... How do i check if the TC is locking up? When I step on it at 70 MPH, there is no jump in the tach,, it just rises with the speed of the car :smash: :smash:
The reason i want to ask these questions now ,,, is the tranny is under warranty and I want to address all problems
To check lock-up cruise down the highway at a steady speed above 45 mph. while foot rests on gas pedal squeese brake with left foot. you should hear convertor unlock and rpm climb 2-3 hundred rpm. when foot lifts off brake pedal you will hear rpm change as convertor locks back up. Remember constant smooth power applied with throttle

Congratulations you own a 1990 Corvette. Also known as the C4 with THE most innacurrate tachometer of all the years! I watched my buddy on the dyno let off at 5000 RPM when his tach said 6000 RPM. This was a stick car, no torque convertor to slip. Slap a scan tool on there and see if it really is at 3000 or not.
Scorp,
Where do I get a scan tool? What kind? where do I plug it in at? The place right below the steering wheel right??????
I thought something was wrong for a while,,, when I got it back from the shop the tach jumped a little bit here and there ,,, but it stopped.......
Why would the TC slip? Is it an adjustment thing or what,,,, would I feel it slip.....
weird thing is ,,, is one day I had it up to 128 and it only registered about 4200 rpms,,, is that normal
Hope I dont get in trouble for saying that :nono:
They're all kinda pricey and some require a laptop to run on also. If you've got somebody in the area with one they should be able to do this in a heartbeat for you. Maybe you can even sweet talk a local mechanic to spend 5 minutes with you to see if its ok or not.

Can't really adjust it unless it was a fluid issue. Worst case scenario would be that some of the fins inside the TC are not angled correctly (or fragged) and causing excessive slippage.
