Default Manual Fan Switch Wire Routing

I know how to jumper the fan relays etc. What I'm interested in routing the wires from the engine bay to the interior.
Where did you pass the wires through the firewall? Is there a hole w/ a grommet somewhere convenient?
I'm thinking somewhere near the brake booster maybe?
I plan on running the wires into the interior, below the dash (above the panels), behind the console, and installing my switch in the cup holder/ ligher area.

I couldn't find a spot like that on my 87. I drilled a small hole where you described and put in a grommet. I covered the wires with conduit and it looks factory

I didn't bother going through the firewall. I routed the wires up near the hood latch, and then under the weatherstripping into the car. Super easy and you can't even see the wires!

I can only speak from MY experience on my '84. After extensive searching, the only possibility *I* discovered, was that I could force the two wires through the hood cable grommet. This bound up the hood cables. After I readjusted, the resistance on the hood lever became "acceptable". Subsequently, I had hood cable problems. I replaced the hood cable and drilled a small hole for the wires near the hood cable grommet for the wires. Unless you find something "easy" on your car, I recommend you bite the bullet and drill. It's easier in the long run. Good luck, and...

It will go through the grommet for the hood release cable......Play with a bit.

In my 94 there is a hole with a rubber grommet behind the battery in the firewall. If you run a wire coathanger thru it it will appear in the interior just above the clutch/ brake pedal area . remove battery, tape the wires from the switch to the end of the coat hanger and push it thru the hole. Untape the wires , pull the caothanger out and you now have the leads inside.

Since the wire that controls the fan relay doesn't really care where you splice into it, on my 87 I found the correct wire right at the ECM and tapped in there. It's within 3 feet of the console and eliminates any need to go through the firewall.

Great solution! No wires added through the firewall. That will work well for y5e06, since he has indicated he is going to wire both fans to run together. It wouldn't have done me any good, however, since the '84 fan is strictly controlled by the temp switch in the head. No ECM involvement on the '84 fan operation. Super idea for 1985s and up.

Thanks for the replies guys. Actually I have an LT1 car. The PCM is located above the battery in the engine compartment. I'll have to look for the grommet Jim mentions. Of to Radio shack I go...
