on my 91 i get false retard from headers and so on. my esc is in the ecm them hooks to the knock sensor. how can i make this go away. anyone who had or has this problem with esc / ecm combo what did you do to get rid of this.??????
A copla guys here have found that knock counts with new headers were due to the header pipes hitting the frame on hard acceleration. You might try chcking for any points of very close fitment.
yes that's my problem, how can i fix that???? do you think i should try to use teflon tape around the sensor??? and i do see where it's coming from on the passanger side right next to the sensor.
on the passanger side one of the header tubes is hitting the frame the only way to fix that would be to bend it or cut it i don't want to bend the tube.
When I had header to frame contact with the IROC I worked the pry bar as the mechanic thightened the header bolts.
You might grind off that point a little and then put a hard wood shim (maybe 1/8"-1/4" thick) between the header tube and the frame before tightening the header bolts. Then remove the piece of wood and see if there is then a gap. This is a way to "gently" deform the header tube slightly.
