Check your clips
the little clips that hold the brake caliper pins on the front. I had one break in half and the other wasn't even there.
So now my car sits with new brakes, but no clips to hold the pins, gotta wait till tomorrow to get new ones.

Re: Check your clips (bogus)
Thanks for the tip, this can cause big problems. Had a good friend killed because of a clip when Disc brakes first come out.

Dumb question time - do all C4s have these, or just certain years? :steering:

Re: Check your clips (jmrl98)
This post applies to all 88-96 front brakes.
I will occasionally reuse the pins and clips, but at the first sign of wear or bending, it goes in the trash. They look like regular old e-clips to me, which are available at OSH/Home Depot. Hopefully those are just as strong...

Carefull w/ the Depot E clips. They are markedly thinner than the GM version. Not worth me risking a wheel lockup.

:iagree: For the couple of bucks it costs to replace the pins and clips I can't see not doing it.

Re: Check your clips (96LT1)
I think I would be aweful careful using the Home depot clips, there just might be a considerable difference in hardness factor as well.Home versus auto? I don't think so. :skep: You might be lucky for awhile, but is it really worth a few bucks difference? :skep: :skep: :skep:

Re: Check your clips (rick lambert)
That's what I was wondering... perhaps the GM clips are made to a higher standard than run-of-the-mill home repair parts.
I noticed one Camaro-Mustang-Challenge racer (3rd gen F-body) had switched to clevis pins and spring clips. I might do that sometime.
By reusing the pins/clips, I'm referring to parts that are only a few months old and still look new. If in doubt just replace them.
