Need help- Error 16- Low-Res Fail (according to DataMaster)
Well, I just ran datamaster. Soon after my car goes into closed loop, the MAP skyrockets (in idle), and the engine surges, and dies. It throws an error 16 (which datamaster says is a "Low-Res Fail". Any idea what this means?
On a 92, code 16 and code 36 are OPTI related. The car won't run without the low resolution pulse. If you have a Helms, there is procedure for testing the circuit book 2 pg 6E3-A-45. If not, send me an IM and I'll give you the procedure. Good Luck.
Looks like a code 16 is a Direct Ignition (DI) Fault. Don't ask me what that means but here is the website where I got the information. http://www.c4vettes.com/ecm.htm
Good luck!
Mark, I have the Opti from my 94. I was anticipating having my son or daughter drive my car, and after hearing all the horror stories of getting straneded due to Opti failure after washing the car, I purchased the new DynaSpark and installed it. My Opti was running fine. If you want it, I will send it to you. If it works for you, send me some beer money.
If you are looking to take the issue off the table, I have had a very good experience with the DynaSpark.
I'd love to take the offer up, but I dont think I will need it..
I have a suspicion it is actually an electical problem. When I disconnect my electric waterpump (which has the switch connected through the ignition coil) everything runs fine. So, I think I am going to have to find another switching source for the water pump.
Plus, the opti is brand new, and is a 95/96, with the drain stuff installed.. so I would doubt it is the opti going bad.. (only has about 1000 miles on it.. and has stayed dry as can be.. )

Not a good place to tap into. I've got my Meziere switch line tied into the fans. When the key is turned on, the power supply line to the fans is hot. The ECM will ground the fans to turn them on. Make sure you use the replay. :steering:
unfortunately I'm on the road ( out til the 12th) so i don't have my service manual. But as I recall. Yes yo have to disconnect tihe plug and yes it will not run. However you should see a voltage swing I want o say it is on like the B pin... there should also be like 5 volts as well I'm sorry I'm going from memory however if you have a helms manual that would tell you or perhaps someone can chime in...
But I had the same low res problem pop up and it was the optispark :(
Mine had somehow sucked oil in the vent and messes up the opti...
It generally gave the low res error after I hit the rev limiter HEH
