Default Time for new shocks

well i was going to wait and get coil overs, but today at the muffler shop, while having my headers fixed up, i saw that my rear passenger shock is kaput. totally nasty and all. i want an all out excellent autocross shock that is capable of daily driving. i dont mind spending a little money, but i want em to last if i blow a big chunk on em. can you folks please tell me my options vs. prices for each. thanks so much

I don't race, but wanted a smoother ride..I replaced my originals with KYBs
I got %100 smoother ride, but I had 116,000 on the old ones..
So I am very pleased..

Hope this helps some to keep your post alive..

stay safe

To tell you the truth, I think the ideal solution for you is new Bilsteins. I was in the same situation as you about 6 or 7 months ago, and after lots of forum searching and lots of questions, I ended up getting in on a Bilstein group buy.

I am pretty sur ethat when you buy DRM coilovers, you would have to buy shocks anyways....but I don't know if they use the stock ones or not...maybe worth researching. Good Luck!

Get Bilstein Autox shocks if you want them stiff.
Youll lose some ride quality with those stiffer ones though. Rear suspension changes directly affect the ride.

The regular Bilsteins are quite capable.

A couple of weeks ago I bought new Bilsteins from Vansteel...they are a vendor on this Forum, I believe...cost me $240 for 4 shocks and free shipping to boot!...never saw them cheaper anywhere... good luck

i've been looking at some koni SA's or some Hal QA1 12 way adjustables. i like the idea of adjustable b/c i would be pissed if i got the bilstein autox shocks and they made my balance worse than it is now, and right now it is pretty good.

currently i have drm revalved bilsteins on the rear and of all things carquest shocks on the front, on the kuhmo mx's i have been within 1 second of autox prepped, stripped hondas on hoosiers...all this on tight courses.

right now i don't have the money to do anything to the suspension that i want, so its a moot point

Yes, the DRM coilovers are bilstein but they are grooved for the threaded coller (not grooved enough IMHO as I have to hold my collars on a couple w/ channel locks for adjustments.).

Anyway, I have my KYB takeoffs you can have for $50 + shipping. Might hold you over until you can get your coil overs. They came w/ a lifetime warranty so I doubt they will go south as quickly as my stock bilsteins did...

I bought a set of KYB's new off eBay for $40. These are great daily driver shocks. Summit Racing has them for $28 each. If you are going to be racing, I wouldn't go with the KYB shocks. Then, I would look at either Bilsteins (Van Steel has the best prices from what other members have reported that bought them) or a high performance brand (Edelbrock, etc.). Next step up would be going with Coil Overs. Check http://www.dougrippie.com or http://www.exoticmuscle.com. Both have some coil over kits and other suspension mods if you are going to get into racing with your Vette. I would also recommend getting the Camber Brace for the front by R&D and either the S/T Cross Brace or Cross-Bar by R&D Racing to strengthen up the front and rear. These items improve the handling immensely!!

Edelbrock sport shocks here. I've had them about a year and have found them to be a good compromise between ride and performance. About $100 each.

:iagree: You can get them for less at Advance Auto, I think when I got mine they were about $80 ea. Also if you have the original Bilsteins on your car I believe you can have them rebuilt. I kept mine just incase. I've had my Edelbrock's for over 2 years now very nice ride when cruising but they stiffin up when driving or breaking hard.
