Greetings! finally took the plunge this past Saturday and bought my 1st. Vette. 1989 Convertable with optional hard top. I am very excited about this car (have been "lurking" on this site for a while). Any storage ideas regarding hanging the hard top from the garage ceiling would be appreciated. Other storage ideas appreciated as well. :auto:
Nice choice, 1989 Convertible! Check out the magazine links posted by Mr. Mojo for storage solutions for the hardtop. I store my hardtop in the basement and just carefully place it out of the way. One of these days I may buy one of those pulley things to lift it off and store it in the garage.
I built a storage cart from PVC sprinkler pipe bades on the pics of the stands in the MAD catalog. I think I have about $25 into the whole thing.
I used 2" Sched 40 PVC and a variety of tee fittings and 90 degree bends. Also got 4 casters for the base.
I also have a pulley system to remove ahd install the hardtop. Found a dual-sheave pulley at Harbor Freight and used some EMT conduit to build a frame to support the top. I have a MS Word document that describes how to build the hoist assembly. Let me know if you want it, I can send it to you as an e-mail attachment.
I'll take some pics of the storage dolly later on this morning and post them here along with the dimensions.
Welcome to the orvette Forum. I agree with Mr Mojo, check the catalogs they have some pretty nice items for this. Also pick up a good maintenance manual. Check Ebay for that, you can find a GM or Helms.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!
