Recently went through the cooling system and replaced the rad / hoses / thermostat. System was working perfectly after this upgrade.
Went to change the waterpump (working fine, just a preventative maintenance issue since I was into the cooling system) and since the second round of maintenance, have been having overheating issues. I also have noted that no matter what, the HVAC system will not heat the car and that when the system gets to overheating, there is something rattling in the black container until the system cools down.
Things that have changed since the initial replacement. While I was changing out the waterpump, I also cleaned out the 2 containers (black up top and clear below).
Barring the obvious (new thermostat sticking closed), might I have gotten the 2 larger hoses on the black container on backwards? Right now the top goes to the firewall and the bottom goes to the waterpump.
Are you absolutely certain you reinstalled the plastic coupler between the water pump and the water pump driveshaft that pokes thru the timing chain cover? Sounds like the water pump isn’t pumping.
I wish we could have talked to you before replacing that OEM style pump. Electric water pumps are the way to go. BTW, I hope you didn't put a rebuilt pump in, they have a bad history with LT1s.
I have burped the system. I will check the coupler. It was on the cam drive side when I installed the pump but...
I purchased a rebuilt but am sending it back because one of the inlets was the wrong configuration, so the original is currently back in.
I had toyed with electric but I am in a time crunch and the whole dropping the oil pan to remove the drive and plug the hole and the necessary electrical would be something I need more than a weekend to do. Maybe next year.

Hello!
Those of you who have been around for a few years might remember that I forgot to install the coupler when I changed pumps. As you might expect, I took a lot of grief over that one......:yesnod:
