I'd like to rebuild my digidash, and I read you need Sylvania 882 light bulbs? The parts store crossed these to a 74? Has anyone heard of that cross or are the 882s the only ones to fit?
Get exactly what the manual specs out. There is a bulb (forget the number) that looks like it will fit perfectly BUT is actually a higher wattage...this will burn out the Dimming Circuit inside the digi dash
The 882 is correct, don't know about 74's, but I can say that an 891 which will fit is NOT correct. They are brighter and are bad for the plastic socket. Don't ask me how I know. I ended up paying $11 a piece for 882's. Onlly one place had them.

Ok that must be the bulb I referred to as a higher wattage.
I found mine at two different autoparts stores, old fashioned ones, not like AutoZone. Nothing against AutoZone, but those places did not have them, neither did walmart. Some guys have reported being able to buy them at walmart for $4.25, but my walmart didn't have them. So keep looking, you will find them.................
Checkers, if you have one around, can order them. I got mine about a month ago from checkers and they were on the clearance rack for 7 cents a piece. I think the normal price was around $10 or $15. I ran to every checkers in the colorado springs area that said they had one or two and I managed to get 4 or 5.
Be sure to get the 882's. They come with the socket. When you crack your dash apart, you'll see how the sockets are pretty charred looking after all the years.
I replaced mine with some 194's I had laying around. They work and it was cheaper than the hard to find, expensive 882's.
The sockets can loosen and get cruddy over the years but you can tighten them up and they may work better.
I have one Original sylvania 882 in stock. Please contact me if you are interested. Generic brand sell for $23 on Amazon. I will sell it for the same price. Please contact for pictures of the actual item.
I highly recommend switching to LEDs. They are much lower in temperature and will last forever. I bought a kit of 4 from eBay.
I know this is an old thread, but - the old halogen 882's and heat generating boogers - ever seen what they do to the internal circuit boards on the digital dash assemblies? not pretty, and they have a low bulb life. early dash assemblies used the 882's but can be changed over to 194's with a different "twist-lock" adapter. I have an old 85 IP core, and found 194 bulbs. years ago, I switched to xenon's on my 85 - same base, wattage, etc, but with a 10000 hr life, and lower operating temp. as a bonus, they are only about $2 each. the latest is the LED assemblies and will most likely will out last any current and future owners, and they run super cool. a bit pricey, but IMO, well worth the upgrade. they are on my to-do list. xenon and LED "upgrade kits" can be purchased thru batee. BTW, I see some questions on #74 bulbs. i'm almost positive they are a smaller bulb and used for turn signals, and high-beam indicators. replacing dash bulbs with original 882's is the last thing I would do
I had my instrument cluster rebuilt the other year by Bantee and had Bryan put Xenon bulbs in at the same time. I have no issue with the bulbs in hte time since replacement.
