Re: gm or accel cap & rotor???? (jvet)
When I replaced mine last year I got an Accel. It had brass contacts compared to aluminum in a stock GM unit. But that said I used stock GM plugs and wires when I replaced them at the same time. By the way, welcome to the Forum
Standard and napa both make brass terminal caps that come in black they are priced competitively too. If you don't want red or tan this is the way to go.
Pete,
That suxs because my local store that sells standard parts showed me a cap with the alum. terminals and I asked for the cap with brass and they said they didnt come that way on them.In fact I asked if they had any brands with bass pieces and they were like,"Never seen em."(Prob another case of the parts guy not knowing what hes talking about)
So I went back to a GM cap.I used an aftermarket cap before and I found the difference between the GM units and the others. The GM unit is alot thinner in plastic construction than the other caps.If anything,it looks weaker.
While it works fine I was very suprised to see the difference side by side.
You cant go wrong with either one really, but just wanted to point this out.
Bill, my buddy owns a store that sells the standard line. The have both they less expensive(my buddy hate when I say cheap) and the brass terminal cap. My msd tends to eat the cheaper aluminum terminal cap quicker than the better cap. I will try to get the part number and post it later today or tomorrow. Be sure to check this post again. Pete :chevy
Bill, I found the numbers. If your 86 has the bolt on cap like my 87 you need standard DR456. If you have the spring loaded l clips then you need DR450. I also have the part number for the small cap that fits the typical f-bodys and that number is DR468.. Hope this helps. Pete
