Default tach filter wire

Help.... received a tune up, new distributor wires, plugs etc on 84 from local garage. Seems that the car came back with tach not working. Looked over and saw that it tach filter wire (white) was pinched, corrected now no problem.... However now I see another white wire coming from the driver side of the distributor marked P.e.d 3 attached to a brown connector that is just sitting there unattached. The other end appears to be attached to the tach bat. any help on where i connect it to?

I *THINK*, and without a manual, I am guessing, that should be the test lead for the computer.

it is disconnected so the computer does not mess with timing, when setting the base timing. double check that wire, but it should be tan, not white.

anyone else?

if I am right, it needs to be connected.

The wiring diagram in my Helms manual (www.helminc.com) only shows two connections to the distributor cap. The small white wire to the tach filter and connect to "tach" on the cap and the large pink wire connected to the "Bat" terminal. Can you be more specific about the "P.e.d.3" wire?

The 3 P.e.d is on the connector with nowhere to go. The other end of the connector is attached to the underneath of the tach bat. no clue as to where it should go. The other wire coming out of bottom on the same side of the tach bat goes to the tach filter which attaches to the motor.

Which? "Tach" or "Bat"? Since it also goes to the tach filter, I'll assume it comes from the "Tach" terminal. The wiring diagram shows no additional connection. I think I remember a similar "wire to nowhere" on my car. Don't worry about it. It may be a hook up for a tune up tach.
