Default 1995 and up fellas... keyless entry.

Well I have this job of washing and waxing Vettes 2 days a week, and doing this I get to move them from place to place, and have noticed all of our '95 and '96s have the deal where you walk up to the car and it automatically unlocks, was this a standard feature or was it an option? Also, was 1995 the first year they had it?

All this hype is going up about that technology now-a-days and seems the Vettes had it back in the mid to late '90s.

EDIT: Spelling

I don't know which years had it. My '95's got it, and some times it drives me crazy :smash: . Other times, it's cool to show off! People ALWAYS think I'm pressing something!!!

Believe it became standard in 93.

Yep `93 was the first year of keyless entry.
`93-`99, passive system
`00-current, active system

If I'm not mistaken, '97-99 could switch between active and passive. I wish GM had done that for '93-96, would have saved me a LOT of trouble.

You can turn it off, but that doesn't leave you with a conventional "active" keyless entry, which is what I wanted in the 1st place. You're stuck with a ridiculous keyfob that only unlocks the passenger door and pops the hatch, and can't lock either door. Dumping PKE was probably the best thing I did to my car.
