I have an 1985 4+3 with original courtesy light timer.
I have had some odd problems with the battery being discharged when standing in the garage.
I found the reason and it is the courtesy light timer (original) that does not function properly.
I have heard that there is an aftermarket one that operates with relay rather than electronic switch (tyristor).
Can somebody please help me withinfoabout a supplier of the courtesy light timer???
It is very annoying to take out the fuse everytime I shall park for a longer time.
I had the same problem with my 87,first check your door switches, then take a look at the angle of your door key locks making sure there straight up and down. Mine turned out to be the timer, Corvettes of Auburn were able to fix it.
My understanding is there isn't a replacement part available, at least a few people have told me this. :nonod:
I was told I got the last new one in the U.S. last year. I think it's a useless feature, and I think some one( wireing-wise person) should figure out how to fix it, or better yet, by-pass the thing. Nice of GM to put it in, then discontinue the part.
Mine went out and I lost the interior lights all together. I searched for a year and found nothing. Ended up getting a used one from a Corvette junk yard and it has worked ever since. I know it was a gamble, but I dont want to mess with the wiring.
Thanks to the General for not carring parts to FIX the cars they make
