Ok, I am planning to replcae my roller rockers, timing belt, headers and cat, and maybe put a SuperRam on. What tools will I need? I have a 94 piece Craftsman tool set which has plenty of sockets (standard and metric), a 3/8 and 1/4 ratchet, hex keys, 5 metric and 5 standard combination wrenches, screw drivers, and I just added a 7pcs. torx set. So what else now? I have seen in old posts which I cant find now about a tool for the distributor to help set timing and a tool for the serpintine belt. I am mostly interested in craftsman, but if they dont make a certain part, any other brand would be fine. Thanx!
The exhuast clearance is VERY VERY small. I ended up buying a set of sockets that had the univesals built in the socket. I got the "small" sae set for about $45. The bolts by the "firewall" are impossible to get to, and you will question whether a new exhuast will be worth the effort.
Also, if you still have the stock exhuast wou'll want to start soaking the exhaust manifold to front cats bolt (3 per side) PLUS get a breaker bar. You will use the breaker bar to literally break/shear 3 of 6 bolts.
A hardened Torx bit set is necessary, maybe Snap-On; Sears doesn't have a Craftsman set. A set of long allen wrenches is very nice for getting at the lower runner bolts.
A tool that clips under a valve spring to compress the spring and a magnetic wand to remove the keepers will be handy, both from Sears.
A balancer puller will be needed to remove & install balancer; Sears should have this.
Of course a good torque wrench will be needed, again Sears.
You may need some rubber tubing and two hose clamps to keep the fuel from seeping from the fuel lines. Even with all pressure relieved mine just won't stop oozing fuel without it.
Some device to cut off the old exhaust system would be nice; at least you can cut off the old cat bolts and maybe the stock header bolts if too rusty.
9/16" there is also a very nice tool available for adjusting rockers. I don't know what it's called, but you can adjust and tighten the bolts without slipping off the adjuster :seeya You can do the serpintine belt with most any 1/2" drive implement
