84-87 Headlight Isolation Relay: What EXACTLY does it do?
Lately (since my car was rebuilt after the accident) my car has been having weird problems with the headlights. It SEEMS that the relay's have been going out, but I THINK it might be the Isolation Relay that's out. Because tonight, I went and got a new relay for the drivers side light, and it didn't fix it. When the other headlight goes up, the passenger side one doesn't move. I tried to manually open it, but the motor is spinning in the downwards direction. So my best guess is Isolation Relay is out.
So my question is, what EXACTLY does this relay do? And where the HECK do I find one at?
Re: 84-87 Headlight Isolation Relay: What EXACTLY does it do? (TIMSPEED)
The isolation relay provides power to the RH motor to close it. Anyplace that has the headlight relays should also have the isolation relay. If your RH motor won't open, but it will close or immediately try to close when you manually open it probably has a worn switch contact in the motor. There are two switches (they look like relay contacts) in the motor that connect the motor wires for the next actuation (motor reversal when they receive power on the correct two wires). You need to remove the motor and take it apart to see the condition of the opening contacts.
