Forum member " SonnyinVA" is running a 409ci LT4. His sig lists a 4" stroke, doesn't list the overbore.

Who sells a 4" stroker crank for a SBC? What is involved in making that crank fit this block? Any clearance issues with the block or cam? Thanks for the info!

I've seen 424, lots of resin in the block, and that's after finding a block that passes a sonic check.

401 is fairly common. HotRod did an article a while back.

Forum member LT401 ( go figure ) runs it in his car Hoover, the car runs 10's naturally aspirated
http://phil.tobin.net/Hoover/top.html

He's dropping a big block in the car now.

396 is max reccomended, unless you just wanna sound cool when talking about your motor... and spend LOTS of money to do so. I ran a 401(10.8 @ 130mph NA) much like Phils. only reason it was 401 is cause i had to go .060 over to clean up my bores.

I have seen 427ci out of an LT1 block. get a real block if you wanna go big cubes (rocket/dart/etc)

Bill Mitchell puts together a 4.250" bore x 4.000" stroke combine to deliver 454 cubic inches on his Motown block. The Dart aluminum SBC can go up to 455 cubic inches with a 4.190" bore x 4.125" stroke. GM's Rocket block can also go up to a 455 with 4.190" bore x 4.125" stroke.

You know what? You're the second person I have recently heard about going .060 over on the bores. The other one was a LT-4 on EBay with .060. From the info on the forum, I was under the impression that going .060 was dangerous as you could hit a water jacket or significantly weaken the cylinder walls?

Unfortunately us LTx guys can't use these blocks.

OK...I see LT401 is using a 3-7/8" stroke Cola crank. Does this crank cause any clearance issues with the rods and block or cam?

GTP was doing 420ci LT1's with a small circle cam. Dave, Even my 383 needed to be clearenced for my rod's. By the way Scott Shairoff is building 472ci street small block's(obviously not an LT1 engine) I just thought you guy's would get a kick out of how far you can take the smallblock.

Much to my chagrin I'm in the middle of building a 415" LT1 for a friend's T/A... I, too, don't feel comfortable going over 396" or more than a 3.875" stroke; however I'm doing it anyway. The block is .060" over and still has over .250" on the thrust side of the walls (sonic test), I also did a short fill of HardBlok and cryoed the block so hopefully it will be okay... It will be a sub-6k rpm motor anyway. I'm using a 4.00" stroke crank with a two-piece rear main seal which necessitates a seal adapter. The block is pretty well done with Oliver billet caps and a lot of care in the machining; but it's still bigger than I'm comfortable with.
