I had a muffler shop alter my Flowmaster cat-back to work with the EM longtubes and Dynatech PowerCats. The longtubes fit closer together than the factory manifolds/cats.
Doesn't the term cat-back infer that a cat is in between the two systems? If that's the case wouldn't the headers have to connect to the cat which in turn connect to the cat-back exhaust?

Yes, if you want to be that technical about it, it does. but the fact is, i currently have a cat-back exhaust system installed, and i was wondering if, after removing the cats and adding headers, any headers would bolt up to the (formerly) cat-back exhaust. i guess it would make the exhaust a collector-back exhaust in this situation.
Yes, they did make them. They were DRM long tube stainless headers and they bolted up to the factory exhaust,(by passing the cats), Flowmaster ,B&B etc. I have them on my car (93 ), but the guy who made them for DRM retired, Watson was his name I believe, and the patent went with him. Maybe DRM can find you a used set.

Thanks! Ill check into it. Othewise, do most people just fab up a 3" pipe to connect the collector and the exhaust?
