I know this topic has been beat to death, but my question is, is there a such thing as having to much overlap between the exhaust banks when making a x-pipe.

Re: x-pipe (djbraxton)
Yes.
Back in 98/99 when I bought my Dr. Gas for my old Nova I did some research on this. It turns out there is a science to the overlap based on tubing diameter. It may not be as precise as Dr. Gas would want you to beleive, but I beleive there is something to it.

Re: x-pipe (djbraxton)
I thought I had read every exhaust subject on here twenty times over but I've not heard anything about overlap. Could I get some elaboration on this and other matters re/ X pipe theory? Thanks.
I think you would have to take into consideration, The length of the headers, the diameter and the collector length. Not to mention the exhaust size and the muffler flow? Maybe even where the X-pipe is placed in relationship to the collectors?
Email Rodney at Header Design.com I bet he could give you an answer.

Re: x-pipe (zrracer)
zrracer, I finally took time to check out headerdesign.com today. That's some of the best reading I've found on not just header design but high performance engine theory as well. Reminds me of reading articles by Smokey Yunich in their scope. Thanks for turning us on to it.
Gee, my X-pipe was put in where it could fit behind the transmission, as close to the cats as possible. Seems to me these C4 cars force designers to compromise to fit very restrictive spaces, even more so than other gen Corvettes.
My X-pipe works in my car, and boosts torque beginning at 3 grand where I can use it. Too bad it's a no-name product I can't recommend to anyone.
If anyone caught my earlier jest about violating the 'laws' and took offense, I apologize.
