Default Techron

Anyone use the stuff? I fired up the car today (she wakes up officially on April 1... can't wait!) and thought about dumping some Techron in the fuel tank. Would this help matters (cleaning/lubrication in the fuel system), or is just a waste of $$$... or is there something better to use?

Well my pops is actually an engineer for chevron, so i guess I'm kind of biased but i stand by this product. When i first got my vette i ran a bottle through, noticeable difference, runs like a champ!

I've never used anything BUT Techron - on all of my vehicles.

My daily driver, a ZR2 S10, would really miss after a couple of days sitting, I got on the ZR2 forum, got about 10 replies recommending Techron, tried it, it has run great ever since, made a believer out of me!

I used to only use Chevron (with Techron) 92 Octane gas but I started hearing my valves "tick" when I accelerated. I switched over to Exxon gas (since my neighbor works at the refinery here in Baton Rouge) and I have not heard them make a sound since. So...while the Techron may work for some, it did not work for me in my case.

I use Techron in all my cars. If you have a 89 to 91 Corvette, I would not use it! This stuff attacks the injector coils (GM Multecs) on these years......I learned the hard way! Two other Vette owners that I know will confirm this problem.

Rich at Cruzin Performance indicated the "bad" injector years were 89 to 91. Here are some comments from Rich:

The problem you currently have is that from 1989 through 1991 on the L98 engines GM installed Multec injectors. These injectors have one of the highest failure rates of any injector ever installed. It's not a matter of "if" they are going to fail, it's simply a matter of "when" they will fail. That is why some of your injectors look differently than the others. Some of them have obviously already failed and were replaced. Because of their design they cannot be repaired so the only solution is to replace them.

I would use the Techron if I had your year of car! Hope this is helpful!
