Default MPG LT1(95) - LT4(96)

Is there a heavy penalty on the extra 50 horse there is to pay (both MN6)?
Since Compression Ratio is higher on the LT 4 - what is min octane requierments ?Emmisions harder to uptain also ?
Thanks !! :seeya

I can't imagine there is a noticable mpg difference between an LT-1 and LT-4. But with your foot in the throttle, who cares :D .

As for octane, I believe you want to run the highest octane you can get 92-94. I run 94 all the time because it is available where I live.

Technically (at least according to advertised HP numbers) the LT-4 is 30 hp more than the LT-1. Although it is nearly unanimous in the belief that the LT-4 was under-rated by GM.

Hope this helps.

BTW - Welcome to the forum!

I run 92 octane and average 22 mpg. So :iagree: with LT-4 CE.....put your right foot down and don't worry about it. :D

Actually the LT4 is better or at least equal to the LT1 regarding both MPG and emissions.

In 1996 the LT4 was EPA rated 27mpg highway/ 16 city, the LT1 (auto) was 25 highway/17 city.

I can attest the stock LT4 easily gets the 27 highway and with some care can exceed 30 mpg highway trips. Put your foot in it and enjoy, butyour mileage will vary ;)

You would want to run premium in either engine.

I just sold a 95 LT1, 6M and bought a 96 LT4. The LT4 gets better gas mileage, maybe +3. I usually run 93 octane, no particular brand.
